Meeting Between public Establishment for Electricity Transmission & Distribution and SAYA
to Support Development and Knowledge Exchange in Power System.
Syrian-International Meetings Address Acceleration of Emergency Power Project and National Grid Modernization.

The Ministry of Energy convened a series of high-level consultations today with a delegation from the World Bank to review progress on Syria's Emergency Electricity Project and explore pathways to accelerate its implementation.
Engineer Omar Shaqrouq, Assistant Minister of Energy for Electricity Affairs, led the discussions alongside Engineer Khaled Abu De , Director of the General Establishment for Electricity Transmission and Distribution. The meetings, held in three separate sessions, focused on assessing the current status of the emergency power initiative, identifying existing challenges, and formulating actionable solutions to expedite project completion.
A key component of the discussions centered on securing additional grant funding to provide technical assistance and capital investments aimed at modernizing Syria's electricity infrastructure. The proposed support seeks to reduce transmission and distribution losses, enhance supply reliability, and improve the operational efficiency of the sector's institutions. These improvements are viewed as essential groundwork for enabling greater private sector participation in the energy sector.
The parties also addressed procurement and financing procedures in accordance with World Bank operational frameworks, as well as mechanisms for preparing progress reports and disbursement requests. Environmental and social safeguards were thoroughly reviewed, including commitment plans and health and safety requirements that must be adhered to throughout the project lifecycle.
The consultations reflect the Syrian government's commitment to rehabilitating critical energy infrastructure and restoring stable electricity services to citizens and businesses across the country. Both parties reaffirmed their dedication to transparent collaboration and timely project execution in line with internationally recognized standards.
Further technical meetings are expected to follow as implementation progresses.
